Today, the sophisticated cameras found on even budget models offer high-resolution images that are good enough to use as a replacement for a document scanner. The resulting images weren’t really useful for anything and you certainly couldn’t make out fine detail such as text. The image will open in Google Docs as a new document and the extracted text will be below it.
If the text image is on Google Drive, right-click on it and select Google Docs from the Open With menu. If you’re using the regular desktop version right-click the image in OneNote and select Copy Text from Picture. Google Drive also has a built-in OCR system to extract text from images.

The key is Microsoft’s OneNote, which has been free since 2015 and comes pre-installed on Windows 10. But that doesn’t mean you need a scanner or expensive commercial software. Upon conversion, you choose to either copy the text document to your clipboard or download it in TXT format. This captures the entire screen, so you’ll want to crop the image to just the text. Then choose your preferred language, click on the convert image button, and get your images converted into text within seconds. Or, if your version of Windows pre-dates the Snipping Tool, simply press your keyboard’s Print Screen key, then open Paint (or any other image editor) and paste the image.
